Nancy with one of her favorite subjects to paint
A native Californian, Nancy Kasten was born with a passion for art and birds. Having won first place in a national competition at the age of 12, she went on to study at Chaffey College, and then privately with various masters of fine art. She has won many awards including best of shows, the Grumbacher award for best use of color and is past President of Associated Artists of the Inland Empire . She has been teaching since 1975
It wasn't till 1992 that Nancy directed her love of art to tropical birds and was overwhelmed by their color. "It really opened my eyes to colors right out of the tube." Having been the cartoonist for her high school paper and having a menagerie of birds herself, she definitely enjoys humor in art and "nothing is more humorous than hookbills!"
